When Youth Therapy Gets Stuck: Trauma, Anxiety, and Emotional Dysregulation in Children

Learn How to Treat Trauma, Anxiety, and Dysregulation in Children

MODULE 1

Read the Child in Front of You

Distinguish a trauma response from an anxiety disorder from ADHD in a child — even when all three look identical in session.

MODULE 2

What Trauma Does to the Developing Brain

Identify exactly which part of the nervous system is driving the shutdown, the explosion, or the freeze, & which intervention belongs there first.

MODULE 3

The Engagement Framework for Children Who Refuse Every Adult

Build the specific kind of relational safety a traumatized child's nervous system requires before any clinical work can begin.

MODULE 4

Find the Trauma Underneath the Anxiety

Identify unaddressed ACEs driving the symptom presentation, so you stop treating the surface and start reaching the wound.

MODULE 5

Why Behavioral Interventions Fail These Kids

Recognize when a child's behavior is a nervous system response to trauma, not a choice that consequences can change.

MODULE 6

When to Consider a Medication Consultation

Know exactly when medication belongs in the clinical picture and how to discuss it with parents without overstepping your scope.

MEET YOUR EXPERT HOST:

Dr. Michelle Magida, PhD

Before Dr. Magida ever sat across from a dysregulated child in a therapy room, she was in the classroom with them — managing meltdowns, tracking nervous system responses, and watching what actually moved the needle when nothing textbook-approved was working.

She then became the Behavior Intervention Specialist for an entire Illinois school district, training clinicians responsible for the most complex youth presentations in the system. That's 15 years of real-world experience with the children who keep every clinician up at night — and it's what this masterclass is built on.

What Changes When You Can Actually Read What's Happening Inside That Child:

WITH THIS MASTERCLASS:

  • You know within the first session whether you're looking at trauma, anxiety, or both, & exactly which intervention belongs there first

  • The child who hasn't made eye contact in four sessions finally has a nervous system explanation you can work with

  • You co-regulate the meltdown before it peaks instead of managing the fallout after

  • Parents who came in expecting behavior plans leave with a clinician who can explain what's actually wrong, and fix it

WITHOUT THIS MASTERCLASS:

  • You treat the anxiety. The trauma underneath keeps ruining everything you treat.

  • The child dysregulates mid-session and you fall back on grounding techniques that don't touch it

  • You recommend behavioral strategies because the school demands them, & watch them fail in real time

  • You refer out the youth cases you actually want to keep

  • The parents stop returning your calls because nothing has moved in 3 months

Who is This Masterclass For?

Clinicians Treating Childhood Anxiety Who Suspect Trauma Is Underneath It

Therapists Getting School and Pediatric Referrals With No Framework to Treat Them

Any Licensed Clinician Who Sees Children and Wants to Stop Referring the Hard Cases Out

Frequently Asked Questions

How many CEs do I receive and what does it cost?

9 board-approved CEs are available for $77 at the next step after registration — that's the pre-webinar rate. Your CE upgrade also includes full recording access to the entire 6-hour Masterclass.

Are the CEs board approved?

Yes. All 9 CEs are board approved and count toward your license renewal. Full approving board details are listed at the bottom of this page.

What is included in the CE upgrade?

9 board-approved CEs and permanent recording access to the full 6-hour Masterclass. Reference everything Dr. Magida covers the moment your next case demands it.

Can I get the recording if I cannot attend live?

Yes. The recording is included with your CE purchase at $77. If April 23rd does not work, your upgrade gives you the full 6-hour training to watch on your own schedule.

Do I receive CEs just for attending live?

No. CEs are available as an upgrade at the next step for $77. Attending live is free. The CE upgrade unlocks both your credits and your recording access.

I primarily see adults. Is this relevant to my practice?

If any child or adolescent appears in your caseload — as a primary client or through family sessions — this training gives you a framework you will use immediately. You do not need to specialize in youth to get clinical value from this Masterclass.

Is this too basic if I already have child therapy training?

This is not a review of standard child development or general anxiety frameworks. It is built for the presentations standard training does not cover — the diagnostically confusing child, the dysregulated child no behavioral intervention has reached, the child carrying ACEs nobody identified. If you have sat with a youth case that did not respond the way your training told you it should, this is built for that moment.

I have attended CE trainings before and could not apply them in session. How is this different?

Dr. Magida built this Masterclass around session-level clinical application, not theory. Every framework is designed to be used with the next child who sits across from you. The recording reinforces that — it is a clinical reference you pull up when a specific case demands it, not a passive rewatch.

Will this actually help me with the complex youth cases I am seeing right now?

If you are sitting with a child you cannot fully read — one whose behavior is not responding to your current approach — yes. This Masterclass gives you a specific framework for identifying what is driving the presentation and what intervention belongs there first.

What licenses qualify for these CEs?

CEs are approved for LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, and LMHCs. Full board approval details are listed at the bottom of this page.

Is this going to be too theoretical to use in session?

Dr. Magida has worked with these presentations for 15 years. Every concept in this Masterclass connects directly to what you do in the room — what you say, what you watch for, and what you try next.

What if I can only attend part of the live training?

Register and attend whatever portion you can. The 9 CE upgrade gives you the full 6 hours in the order Dr. Magida delivered it — available the moment you need it, for as long as you need it.
