Dr. Frances Patterson has spent 35 years inside addiction treatment — as a counselor, as a program administrator, and as the clinical supervisor who trains the next generation of addiction counselors toward licensure. She holds NAADAC's Master Addiction Counselor credential, served four years as NAADAC's Southeast Regional Vice President, sat on the association's clinical issues & ethics committees, and in 2006 was named NAADAC's National Professional of the Year — the Mel Schulstad Award, the field's highest recognition for sustained contribution to addiction counseling.
She runs Footprints Consulting Services in Tennessee, authored The Addiction Supervisor's Toolbox (2020), and is a member of the NAADAC Trainers Academy with 28+ years of national training experience. CAIMHP Certification Application Requirements:
Complete this Qualifying Training — Minimum 12 CE hours required. This course delivers 18.
Hold a Current State or National License — Master's degree or higher, licensed for independent practice (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist, APRN, PA, MD, NP, BCBA & related).
Attest to 100 Clinical Contact Hours — The applicant must attest that, over the course of their career, they have completed a minimum of 100 contact hours with clients who had substance use disorder as a co-occurring factor presented during mental health treatment. For most working mental health clinicians, this is already met. No documentation required beyond your attestation.

No quiz. Attend live or watch the recordings, complete a brief post-training survey, and your Certificate of Completion is issued automatically.
How many CEs will I earn? 18 board-approved CEs

CAIMHP signals to clients, referral sources, and employers that you're trained to treat substance use alongside mental health conditions.
Is this training live or recorded?
Both. Sessions run live on Zoom July 15-17, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM ET. Every session is recorded and available in your account after it airs, so you can watch on your schedule and revisit specific protocols when a case calls for them. Live attendance is encouraged but never required.
What if I can't meet all the certification requirements right away?
You have 2 years after completing this training to submit your full CAIMHP application to Evergreen.
