Dr. Ashley Smith did not arrive at this framework from theory alone. She has spent her career working directly with clients presenting with anxiety disorders across a range of clinical settings, sitting with the cases that did not respond to standard treatment and the presentations that did not surface clearly at intake. That clinical reality, watching avoidance cycles persist after insight and regulation strategies collapse under real activation, is what drew her to the framework she brings to this training.
What she brings to the August 18th training is grounded in that same practice: the gap between what the standard anxiety model was designed to address and what clinicians actually encounter in session. Her clinical work spans generalized anxiety, panic presentations, and high-functioning anxiety, including the cases where cognitive distortions survive CBT and maintenance factors keep anxiety running long after evidence-based treatment should have closed it. She is known for making these frameworks immediately applicable in real sessions, not as theory but as clinical tools you can reach for the next day.

You identify the avoidance cycle maintaining anxiety before applying any intervention
You read high-functioning anxiety presentations that do not look anxious at intake
You apply regulation strategies that hold when nervous system activation peaks
You locate the maintenance factors keeping treatment-resistant cases stuck
Avoidance outlasts every explanation & the cycle keeps reinforcing itself
High-functioning anxiety stays hidden at intake & the wrong presentation gets treated
Regulation tools work in session & collapse the moment real activation hits
Treatment-resistant cases stay clinically illegible & the case does not move

Yes. This training is built for clinicians who already carry anxiety cases on their caseload & want a clinical framework for avoidance, cognition & regulation that standard training did not fully provide.
Dr. Ashley Smith covers the maintenance factors & avoidance patterns that keep anxiety running after CBT has been correctly applied, the high-functioning presentations that standard assessment misses, & the regulation strategies that hold under real nervous system activation, not just in session.
No. The clinical framework taught here adds an assessment & intervention layer to the modality you already practice without asking you to replace it.
Yes. This training focuses specifically on the avoidance cycle that persists after insight, the maintenance factors driving it, & the in-session clinical moves that interrupt it where explanation alone cannot.
